Turnip Cake (HK Style) – 萝卜糕


  • 1 whole Chinese Turnip – Grated
  • 1 tbsp Dried Shrimp – Chopped
  • 7 pcs Chinese Dried Black Mushrooms – Chopped
  • 1 Chinese Sausage – Diced
  • Few Garlic – Chopped
  • 1 cup Rice Flour
  • 1 tbsp Corn Flour
  • Some Salt
  • Some Sugar
  • Some White Pepper


  • Sift the Corn Flour and Rice Flour into a mixing bowl. Add Salt, Sugar, Pepper into mixed dry ingredients
  • Stir fry the Turnip in a wok. Add a bit of water to the Turnip to cook
  • Stir fry Garlic, Dried Shrimps, Dried Mushrooms and Chinese Sausage with a clean Pan
  • Transfer the cooked Turnip into the mixed dry ingredient (Corn Flour, Rice Flour). Mix them well with a Spatula
  • Add in the fried ingredient (Garlic, Dried Shrimps, Dried Mushrooms, Chinese Sausage) into the wet ingredient. Mix well
  • Pour the final mixed ingredient into a greased container. Let it sit for 5 minutes. 
  • Set the steamer to boil first then cook the Turnip Cake for 45 minutes with Medium Fire. (Ensure you have sufficient water in the steamer)
  • Turnip Cake can be served steamed or pan-fried with Chinese Black Sweet Sauce and Chilli Sauce
